Google CEO Sundar Pichai explained in a recent interview with WSJ that the company wanted to ensure a good ‘product-market fit’ before releasing its AI chatbot, Bard.
Pichai acknowledged that timelines may have changed due to the industry’s moment, but emphasized that being the first to market isn’t always necessary.
Google Wasn’t The First One Always
Pichai also pointed out that Google has been successful in other areas despite not being the first to develop a product.
For example, Google was not the first to develop a search engine, browser, email product, or mapping product, but has been successful in those areas.
Pichai conveyed confidence in Google’s ability to capitalize on the moment when it comes to AI technology and assured that the company is moving quickly and strategically to do so.
It’s worth noting that Google’s approach to launching its AI chatbot is different from OpenAI’s approach.
OpenAI launched its chatbot, ChatGPT, to the public last year, while Google only released Bard in March 2023.
OpenAI has also rolled out the GPT-4 update, making the chatbot much faster and more reliable.

Why Is Google Still Delaying?
